Wedding Timeline: Why Securing Your Date + Venue Should Come Before Contacting Your Florist

You're engaged, you're excited, and your Pinterest board is overflowing with dreamy floral inspo. It's so tempting to reach out to your wedding florist before anything else. If that florist is us (hi, hello, welcome!), we’re flattered you love our work. 🥹

No matter where you are in the planning process, we’re genuinely thrilled to hear from you. If your wedding date and venue are booked before reaching out, that just helps us design with intention and accuracy from the start. But whether your date is locked in or still coming together - you're absolutely welcome to reach out anytime.

This guide is simply meant to show how timing can help things run even more smoothly when it lines up that way.

1. Floral Designs Are Venue-Specific

No two venues are the same, and floral installations aren't one-size-fits-all. A mountaintop ceremony in Telluride? Dramatically different from a sleek ballroom in Scottsdale or an open-air garden venue in Austin. We design with your space in mind - working around entry points, ceiling heights, altar types, lighting, and more.

We tailor every floral design to your venue's architecture and vibe.

2. Flower Availability Is Season-Dependent

Your wedding date determines what flowers will be in season - and that impacts everything from color palette to budget. Dreaming of peonies in October? We'll always find beautiful alternatives, but knowing your date helps us create a design that feels intentional and feasible with seasonal bloom selections.

When you design with the season, your florals are at their freshest - and most breathtaking.

3. Accurate Budgeting and Pricing Starts with the Basics

We love a dreamy mood board, but without knowing your venue or guest count, it’s hard to provide accurate pricing. Your location, date, and scope determine labor needs, travel requirements, and how many florals we need to fill the space.

Once your venue and date are set, we can create a design plan (and quote!) that reflects your season, venue, and scale.

4. Creating a Cohesive Vision Takes a Little Strategy

Your wedding aesthetic should reflect your story - but also work in harmony with your space, the season, and your other vendors. Booking your planner, venue, and date early allows us to collaborate on a design that’s elevated, cohesive, and entirely you.

The earlier your core vendors are aligned, the more intentional your final design will feel.

5. Let’s Talk About Edits: What Happens Post-Contracting

Some couples know from the jump they want to work with us - even before they’ve locked in a date or venue. And we love that kind of energy!

That said, if your wedding is over a year away and you’re still making foundational decisions (venue, season, guest count), we want you to know: your floral design will evolve. In fact, we fully expect to make adjustments as your day takes shape.

For example, a couple might sign on with us in July 2025 for their April 2026 wedding. Totally normal. But we’ve found that having such a long lead time can sometimes lead to getting caught in the weeds - lots of back and forth over design tweaks, proposal revisions, and decisions that don’t need to be finalized that early.

It’s all part of the process, and we’re here for it. But just know: your initial proposal is the starting point. The real magic happens once everything else is in place!

Design Starts With the Details

The order of your planning decisions can shape your entire floral experience. And one more thing - booking your venue and date early doesn’t just help us with design. It gives you access to the best team of vendors possible. High-demand florists (👋), planners, and photographers often book up quickly - especially for spring and fall wedding dates - so the earlier you secure your date, the more flexibility you'll have when it comes to choosing the team that truly aligns with your vision.

Whether you're tying the knot in Austin, Scottsdale, Telluride, or somewhere far-flung and fabulous - we're here to bring the vision to life with creativity, care, and calm.
